About the CoB-NISH Project

The DGB Connect Project is a collaborative initiative addressing the growing needs of newcomers in Brant County. Through a centralized hub, CSLOs will provide culturally responsive outreach, safety education, and direct connection to local services, helping reduce preventable police involvement and supporting safe, inclusive communities.

Position Summary

The Community Safety Liaison Officer (CSLO) will serve as a frontline ambassador, connecting newcomers with services, delivering outreach, and co-leading safety workshops with Brant OPP. CSLOs will be trusted bridges between newcomers, the community, and local institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach in newcomer communities, including rural/mobile engagement.
  • Provide intake support and referrals to housing, employment, health, and legal services.
  • Co-deliver workshops on safety, rights, and community resources with OPP.
  • Act as a cultural liaison, supporting trust-building between newcomers and police.
  • Conduct follow-ups, home visits, and conflict mediation where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of clients, referrals, and engagements.
  • Collect success stories and feedback to inform project evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Lived or professional experience working with newcomers, refugees, or culturally diverse groups.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication and outreach skills.
  • Familiarity with settlement, social service, and safety resources in Brant County.
  • Ability to work independently and within community settings.
  • Multilingual ability considered a strong asset (e.g., Punjabi, Arabic, Hindi, Tagalog, Ukrainian, Spanish, French).
  • Basic proficiency in using digital tools for reporting and communication.

Terms of Employment

  • Contract Duration: October 2025 – March 2026
  • Schedule: 10 hours per week (some flexibility for events and workshops)
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid (remote administrative work and in-person event support)
